Established in 1968, Runnymede is the UK's leading independent think tank challenging race inequality, generating intelligence to challenge race inequality in Britain, through research, network building, leading debate, and policy research. Our work focuses on building a Britain in which all citizens and communities feel valued, enjoy equal opportunities, lead fulfilling lives, and share a common sense of belonging. We act as a connector between communities and decision makers and play a critical role in providing evidence and insight to effect change.
Our current Director, Omar Khan, is leaving us after many successful years to take up the role of Director at the Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO). Under his leadership Runnymede has continued to extend its work and build its excellent reputation. He leaves a strong legacy. We have a sound funding base, a highly capable and committed team, and diverse board of trustees. The new Director will have the scope to lead and develop our next strategy, continue to collaborate across the race equality sector and foster relationships at both institutional and civil society level.
We are looking for a versatile and intellectually agile leader with a demonstrable commitment to equality and social justice and a good understanding of the history and current developments in race equality or equivalent in a closely related field. You will be a credible ambassador and possess sophisticated communication skills, with the political acuity to engage with, and influence a wide range of stakeholders from grassroots community organisations, to senior policy makers and the media.
You will bring a strong strategic mindset balanced with a pragmatic skillset to effectively manage and enhance the operations of a small charity. Experience of commissioning and leading research is essential, as is your track record in successful income generation and developing strong relationships with funders. We're looking for an enabling and nurturing leader who can inspire, support and develop our team and be a collaborator across the race equality sector to reach better outcomes.
This is a hugely rewarding and multi-faceted role. You will be the guardian of Runnymede's unique history and a key architect of its future – continuing to build its important and well-respected role in the evolution of a fair society.
